He felt his brow raise at the perceptive and respectful response which the man gifted upon him, smile light, if surprised. With a tilt of his head the fallen examined the features shrouded in peaceful darkness, curiosity peaked, “I am humbled by your knowledge, Sir.”

My kind can recognize others for what they really are, but I don’t really know anything else about you. Like your name, for example and please, I’m no sir. Jacob will do just fine.

“I wonder, should I offer the reality of my identity will you harbor it as dearly as I do?” He questioned, a light smile upon his lips at the intuition displayed in the other, “It is a secret jealous guarded.”

“If only I could but own the mantle of one as ordinary of those I crafted, Eira. It would be a welcome change to the ages spent in disgrace of my own and the dismissal of yours.”

“None would choose this fate.”

“Don’t take disbelief as dismissal; I’ve lived a life where the majority of people I meet are not to be trusted. I’m merely covering my bases before I decide if I should stay and chat… or run. So… once again. How do I really know you are who you say you are?”

image

“I know naught how to prove to you that I am the titan of days long past. The power that has filled my days in hours past has been long since robbed by fate.”

“Am I to assume that in some degree that is an offer?” He smirked, confusions and curiosity flashing through his eyes at the words that seemed most intriguing to a mind long robbed of substance.

“Well, it depends. Would you want my company? I hardly am the best one, given my title and my overall ‘charming’ personality”, she replied amicably, tilting her head to the side. “Of all the Greeks I have met, few became close to me. In fact, Hades seems to be the one who can stand me”, she said a little more somber. Not that it mattered to her. They did not cause her anything, nor did she attempt to pester them. “I wouldn’t mind if you did, however. Stay, I mean.”

“Then I fear I shall have to take advantage of your kindness my Lady, as If find nothing to which I can hold complaint in your action or word.” And it was true, he thought, casting a light smile to her, she was indeed a welcome companion, despite that which clouded her name, “I think you shall find that that which deters others holds little sway over me.”

Loke Laufeyjarson, god of fucking shit up, not at your service. Who are you?

“It is good to see that you have not lost the very fire that inspires such devotion,” the elder god smirked, his lips spread wide with genuine appreciation, “I must say I appreciate the lack of horns.”

“Do you not have issue accepting the legends of others into your heart, your life.” He insinuated, a smile light upon his lips, “What seems so outlandish of my claim?”

image

She narrowed her eyes. “I accept the legends of others with proof that they are who they say they are,” she replied simply. “And… you’re claiming to be a Titan, the creator of man and thief of fire. Even after meeting a few Norse gods, your claim seems a bit… out there.”

“I should think not, unless it would bring you some manner of pleasure my Lady.” He smiled, greatly appreciating the easy exchange of communication between them, thrilled, in fact, by the free communication that was a rarity most days, “If I am to be honest,” he hedged, a light smile still upon his lips despite the turmoil spinning in his heart at the confession, “my near constant loneliness may have played its part as well.”

image

image

“Oh no. It became rather tedious to present myself to every living thing that happened to stumble upon me”, she confessed, shaking her head, a subtle smile to her lips. Those who already knew who she was were greatly outnumbered by those to whom she had to explain who she was and why she was female. Hearing his latter words, she tilted her head, an almost non-verbal ‘continue’. The goddess then nodded in agreement. She knew of loneliness. “Well, then… An even better reason than curiosity to seek some companionship.”

“Am I to assume that in some degree that is an offer?” He smirked, confusions and curiosity flashing through his eyes at the words that seemed most intriguing to a mind long robbed of substance.

“A fair substitute no?” He smiled, eyes downcast, “A preferred title among your world, I must admit. In truth my name is one far less pedestrian.” His breath was deep, hands fiddling in his pockets, “Prometheus.”

image

“…. Promethus?” she repeated. The name threw her off for a moment, her knowledge of mythology racing through her head at lightning speed. It was a short list, but his name was on it. She laughed slightly and shook her head. “You really expect me to believe you are the Promethus?”

“Rhea,” he whispered, eyes widening upon the features so dearly familiar even after this long period of separation that so marked their absence  “I had never thought to behold this sight until the end of my days.”

“Prometheus.” the titaness observed the trickster with a soft smile, letting her usual hostile behavior come at bay for the time being. “And why would you ever think such thoughts?”

image

“Does not banishment bring with it the riggors of isolation?” he questioned softly, his eyes roving her features with abandon born of appreciation, “I had imagined you would  be only revealed to me in the hour of death, if I were to ever be granted such freedoms as that.”

With a light smile and a turn of head the god returned the smile, eyes alight with curiosity, “Hello my Lady.”

She held her hand out to him and said, “I’m Macaria, Goddess of Blessed Death.”

“Is it truly such a blessed condition?” He questioned lightly, a smile upon his lips in a combination of curiosity and confusion.
